After she was hit by an astonishing penalty following her second circular, lee Ann Walker hit the headlines at the Old LPGA Championship at Indiana.
Her opening 85 was corrected to some 127 while 16 shots were inserted to offer her a score of 73 over par after she incurred a 42-stroke punishment.
Officials in French Lick were not alerted to the violations until midway through her second circular, although walker dropped foul of the rule which bans caddies helping their players with intervention.
It transpired Walker’s caddie was helping her line up putts on every green, and she incurred a penalty for each time she breached the rule which came into effect.
LPGA rules official Marty Robinson affirmed the seriousness of the penalties, also that a caddie for a few of her playing partners had detected that the breach of the rules.
Walker consulted a rules on her hole of her round, plus they flocked to work out how many times she had used her caddie to look at her alignment about the greens.
This worked out in 21 violations within her first round, and a further eight times over the first few holes of her round.
Walker opening round was shifted into a 55-over 127 which comprised five nines in a par-three on her card.
