Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan and other support staff of the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team have been asked to leave the state at the earliest. Amid the growing tension in the valley after the government’s advisory, the members of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) backroom staff along with over 100 cricketers have been asked to go back to their respective homes.
Pathan is currently associated with the Jammu and Kashmir side as a player cum mentor. He along with coach Milap Mewada and trainer Sudarshan VP and the selectors, who are not from the state, are expected to leave by Sunday. The development comes as a huge blow to the Jammu and Kashmir side ahead of the start of the new domestic season.
Amid the growing unrest in the valley, the JSCA also decided to scrape off the training sessions involving players of different age groups. The state association has suspended cricketing activities for now and will wait for the situation to get clearer before making a decision. Over 100 cricketers have been sent back home. The JSCA was planning to organise more selection matches at the Sher-i-Kashmir stadium in Srinagar but the players have been asked to leave.
“We’ve already sent 101-102 Jammu players, who were camping at Sher-i-Kashmir stadium, back. The situation is tense and even we are not sure what’s going to happen, so we postponed cricketing activities and decided to wait for the right time to restart it,” Bukhari added.
The domestic season gets underway on August 17 with the Duleep Trophy. Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played next post which the Ranji Trophy season will begin from December 09. It can be a big blow for Jammu and Kashmir side, who are unlikely to get enough time for practice and selection. The state is also scheduled to be hosting a few domestic games but it looks unlikely now (courtesy Times now news .com)
